TREES

When CTP & I owned our house in Wpg we had a big yard with 4 apples trees and one very messy crab apple tree. We had more apples than we could ever use ourselves so we would share with his Mom and his Auntie and an older man from down the street. I had some stipulations though! There was one tree that I really like so I asked him to please not pick from that tree. He didn't care. He had been picking from those trees longer than we had owned the house. He would come during the day and pick while we were at work. So I put a padlock on the fence. Didn't stop him, he'd throw his wagon and pails over the fence and jump it! UGH, the nerve. Oh well, our apples were never wasted that's for sure.

Now that we're homeowners again we decided last year to buy some more trees. We ordered from T&T Seeds in Winnipeg last Fall and got our trees in early May. We got a Goodland Apple, Norland Apple and a Rose Cherry Tree.

Well if you live where I do you know that deer are a problem. So we got some stucco wire and built cages around the trees to protect them until they are mature. Once they are mature I have no problems sharing with the deer.

Here is our little cherry tree:

We won't be getting any apples this year but its nice to see that they are blossoming and growing leaves like crazy. That's a good sign. I'm looking forward to making my MIL's delicious apple pie as well as all those other goodies.

I love my yard. I love flowers and I love gardening. I don't profess to be good at it by any means but I don't think my yard looks bad either. I have seen worse. My goal is to have the whole yard filled with perennials so that I don't have to plant every year. My time and money (perennials cost more, usually) will do the job for me once they have matured and filled in. So this year I also purchased a Weeping Pussywillow. Its amazing how much its grown since Mother's Day.

The rain has been helpful for all of the things I've put in this year but I have to admit, I've had enough of the rain.
