CHRISTMAS BAKING

How much effort does the average person put into Christmas baking?

Every Christmas I make a couple things but it never lasts till Christmas and we don't get enough company during the holidays to worry about having something to put out with coffee and we don't have a big family Christmas either. Which I think is the whole point of Christmas baking.

Well this year I thought it might be time for a change. So I went online and found some recipes I thought my family might like.

So this year I made Butterscotch Slice (I always do), Cherry Flips (for the bake exchange), Boomerangs (a cookie that my Grandma makes but which DH advised me was not nearly as good), Peppermint Meltaways (a new recipe) and I think this weekend I'll make a big batch of sugar cookie dough and let the kids decorate. I wanted to try making a an eggnog thumprint cookie but never got around to it. I was also going to make chocolate mice for LM's class party but again, time got away on me and I did already bake for the Halloween class party so I was off the hook anyways.

I participated in a baking exchange this winter with a friend from town. She organized it, asked a couple people who then all invited someone(s) to join. In the end we had 11 people baking. We each made something different and we made 5.5 dozen each so each person would end up with a half dozen of everything to try. It was a huge success and we've already talked about doing it again next year. Everything was very good. We had a nice little sit down where we chatted and had coffee. And I got to meet a couple more people in town.

Anyways, enough rambling. Off to take LM to school, then come back and pick up DH & LP. LM's teacher organized an outing with the kids this week but hurt her back and can't skate so we're gonna drive kids to the rink and DH is gonna go on the ice with the class (22 of them) and supervise.
