WAYWAYSEECAPPO

The last couple days I've been thinking about the place we've been and how I'll remember them.

We were really excited. This was a new beginning for us AND we were back together again after 6 months apart (and only one visit inbetween). We also decided that now was the time to start a family. I remember driving there, essentials in the back of the truck cause our HHE wouldn't be coming for a while and of course we had Magnum, Kitty & Tahoe with us. This was the first thing we saw and I said to CTP, I think I'm really gonna like it here.

The landscape was stunning. Into the reserve, the back roads into Riding Mountain National Park, Aessissipi. The only crappy thing about it was the fog some mornings. Very hard to get out of the valley when you couldn't see the windshield wipers on the truck!

We had a great bunch of people there. We also had everything we needed within 20 mins. or less. Depended which town you went to, Rossburn (6kms) or Russell (15 or so kms). Shopping, hospital, doctor, library, groceries, ice rink, sports store, vet clinic, everything that you needed to be comfortable. We could drive just over an hour and go to Dauphin, Brandon or Yorkton, Sask. There were lots of places to go fishing too. There was even a chicken processing plant there as well so if you wanted fresh chicken, off you went. And cheap too.

We loved the house. A double-wide trailer, pretty much brand new. The houses were all identical. One day we were visiting at another couple's house and they called out, hey so and so, where's that bathroom scale you had? I called out, that was my bathroom. The only thing different in the houses was the furniture.

The people were great too! I was lucky enough to meet some of the elders and get involved in some of their activites. I was given a goose berry necklace made by one of the elders. I still have it tucked away in a safe place.

While I spent a lot of time home alone I kept myself busy doing puzzles, reading, unpacking, making a blanket for our new babies arrival. And on days off we would all wander down to the Russell Inn for wings and drinks. Because I was pregnant I was always the designated driver! And the guys played lots of hockey as well. We would also head off to the MJHL hockey games when they played in town.

I also got to play surrogate big sister to our neighbors sister when they weren't available. I'd pick her up after school in Russell after volleyball practice and keep an eye on her. What a great kid. We still keep in touch with her.

I guess to me it'll always have a special meaning for two reasons, it was the start of our new adventure and it was where our family began as DS was conceived there. While it didn't end the way it should have I still have many fond memories of it.
