This is usually a bittersweet time of year for us. Hockey is over, socializing cuts down a bit and we re-establish a home routine. DH is more upset about it ending because he loved the regularity of coaching and the time to get on the ice and forget about things.
I can't believe that LM has now finished his 3rd season of hockey. His first year he spent most of the time on his butt never being on skates before and he's come a long way. So proud of my boy.
Last weekend we headed to Reston, MB for the playoffs. We almost ended up in the same pool as the other K-town team but won a coin toss and got put into the pool with the best teams this year. Teams we've never played. While we won 1st in the East division for the season we knew we were in for a good hard weekend of hockey! And LM was promised playoffs so the netminding was all his.
We ended up 4th in the division for the year. Pretty damn good if you ask me. As a parent I couldn't have asked for better coaching. S.O. is an awesome coach and I had my fingers crossed that we would get onto her team at the beginning of the season. She taught our boys sportsmanship, team play and the importance of friendship and fair play. She was also good at telling/showing the boys their weaknesses and how to work on them.
Instead of heading home on Saturday night and facing another 5 a.m. wake up call to get back to Reston we decided to stay in Brandon for the night and take in the Wheaties game. We stayed at the Canad Inns and LM advises us he won't be staying there again. The pool was freezing cold!! I have to agree. It was really convenient being right attached to the Westman Centre but...
This weekend we have our very last tournament in Souris. We are heading into Brandon after school to take in the pool with our fellow team mates and parents and then heading to the game to use our free tickets from the FanCamp. We have an 11:30 a.m. start in Souris in the AM which means we get to sleep in for once.
LM's idol is playing in Deloraine Saturday evening so we'll probably head over there and watch the AAA playoffs.
Here's to another great weekend with friends and my wonderful children.
